Maryland Butterflies

Maryland Butterflies

I haven’t had a lot of time to take photos this week, so I thought I would share these butterfly photos from Hoof Beats and Foot Prints. I love butterflies!

Emily Carter Mitchell ~ Nature & Wildlife Photography

Maryland was more than represented among the exotics at the “Wings of Fancy” exhibit at Brookside Gardens. These beauties can be found among gardens and natural areas in North America.

If one is lucky and discover a caterpillar in the garden, you could bring it in and feed it host plants to encourage it to go into the cocoon stage. Waiting patiently a butterfly is sure to emerge.

In response to The Daily Post’s weekly photo challenge: “Beneath Your Feet.”

As I have a 2 year old son, I frequently trip over his toys :).  So, in response to the WordPress photo challenge this is what is beneath my feet most of the time 🙂  Hope you enjoy the picture.

Quote of the Day: Photography

Great quote about photography! I totally agree!

“Photography is an art of observation. It’s about finding something interesting in an ordinary place… I’ve found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.” – Elliott Erwitt

Balboa Park Concert

Tonight there was a free concert at Balboa Park at Spreckles Pavilion.  They had Ragtime music by Heliotrope along with dancers and Barbershop singers.  Here are some photos I took of the event.  It was a lot of fun!

I think this is a great idea for us who love books as much as photos!  Here is my version.  I love that the word Tikkun is on the top book.  Tikkun means “to repair” in hebrew and I do think that books can repair the world 🙂

Pictures of books are a thing. Actually, they have been for a while now. Pictures of books have evidently been a thing since at least the summer of 2014. Collective Lifestyle’s article, Social Media Meets Book Nerds With Bookstagram, introduces the phenomenon, but says there were already 150,000 bookstagrams on Instagram by then. So, being in love with all things book-related as I am, I thought I’d try my hand at making a bookstagram. I’ve made two, actually, and they’re up on my Instagram account, shared to my Twitter feed, so I apologize if you’ve already seen them.

Here’s the first one, featuring A Siege of Bitterns by Steve Burrows, and the coolest bookmark I’ve ever had (or seen!):

Quirk Books just posted a neat article on July 21 entitled, How to Photograph Your Books for Instagramin which are lots of good tips for creating appealing bookstagrams…

There is a full moon tonight and I felt compelled to capture it even if it wasn’t quite as good a photo as I would like.  I did like the way the moon contrasted with the house windows in the picture, however.  It looks a little spooky to me :).  Do any of you have advice regarding photographing the moon or taking photos at night?  I would love to hear your ideas.
